Pack 47 was formed with busy families in mind. Many of our scouts are also involved in sports or other activities and we try to schedule our activities to promote a good balance. As a result, we tend to meet less frequently than other packs. In addition to working towards the vision of the Boy Scouts of America, our goal as a pack is for our scouts and families to HAVE FUN! Parents and siblings are encouraged to participate in camps and outings for a fun family experience.

Each Cub Scout is a member of a “den.” Scouts are divided into dens by grade: Lion Cubs (Kindergarten), Tiger Cubs (1st grade), Wolves (2nd grade), Bears (3rd grade), Webelos (4th /5th grade) and Arrow of Light (5th grade). Scouts attend den meetings to learn new things and have fun. Dens are led by a team of adult volunteer den leaders. Den leaders are usually parents of boys in the den. They make sure the boys complete the achievements necessary for their age group.

All dens combined make up a “pack.” There are dozens of packs around the area and each one is independently coordinated. Each pack is hosted by an organization (a church, school, youth group, etc.). Our pack is Pack 47, and we are hosted by Central Baptist Church in downtown Newnan. The church also hosts the Boy Scout Troop 47.

Many packs, together with the troops, make up a “council.” All packs within Coweta, Fayette, Butts, Henry, Lamar, Pike, Spalding, and Upson counties collectively make up the Flint River Council. There are nearly 300 councils with over 2.4 million scouts and 1 million adult volunteers across our country making up the Boy Scouts of America.

Scouts will generally meet twice per month: once with their respective den and once with the entire pack. Meeting schedules are included in the welcome packet, although some meeting dates and/or times may change under certain circumstances.
Our Pack meets once per month to share news relevant to all dens and allow interaction between dens. Pack meetings usually follow a suggested theme and are a time for boys to be recognized for their accomplishments during the month, to perform skits and songs they’ve learned in den meetings, and to have fun with the entire family. The Pack meetings are held on the fourth Sunday of each month at 4 pm at the Central Baptist Church fellowship hall. The entrance is located in the new Fellowship Hall, facing West Broad Street.
